Five-time Olympic speed skating champion Claudia Pechstein has joined the German national team for the next stages of the 2023/24 World Cup, reports the press service of the German Speed and Short Track Skating Association.
The 51-year-old athlete will participate in the 5000 meter race. Pechstein will be able to compete on the stage in Stavanger, Norway, scheduled for December 1-3.
Pechstein is a five-time Olympic champion and has two silver and two bronze medals at the Games. Three of the athletes’ five Olympic gold medals have been won over the 5km distance, the last of them at the 2022 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.
