President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBR) Viktor Maygurov said at the farewell ceremony of two-time Olympic champion Viktor Mamatov that some foreign friends asked him to offer condolences for the loss.
The event takes place on Monday, October 30 in the Great Ritual Hall of the Troekurovsky Cemetery.
– We are in mourning today. In the last minutes of his life, Viktor Fedorovich was always interested in what was happening in our federation. He was completely sober and always sharing advice. Mamatov is a two-time Olympic relay champion and four-time biathlon world champion. After completing his career, he received the title of Honored Coach of the USSR, from 1989 to 1992 he headed the USSR Biathlon Federation and from 1993 to 2002 he was the first vice-president of the International Biathlon Federation (IBU). .
Mamatov died on October 27 at the age of 86.
