Sessions of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which will examine the appeals of biathletes Svetlana Sleptsova and Evgenia Ustyugova upon disqualification by the International Biathlon Union (IBU), will be held on August 31 and September 1. This was reported by the CAS press service.
Initially, the consideration of the appeals of Ustyugov and Sleptsova was scheduled for October 14-15, 2021, then the hearings were postponed to March 15-17 of the current year, since the process of collecting evidence was not not finished. The Sleptsova court will consider the appeal on August 31, Ustyugova – a day later.
The International Biathlon Union (IBU) announced in February 2020 that Ustyugov and Sleptsova, who had already finished their careers, had been suspended for two years based on data received from the Moscow laboratory. Sleptsova was found guilty of using the banned substance ostarin, Ustyugov – oxandrolone.
Ustyugov, Alexei Volkov, Dmitry Malyshko and Anton Shipulin won gold in the relay at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. Due to the decision on Ustyugov, the Russian team should lose their gold medals. The disqualification of Ustyugov was to be counted from February 13, 2020, and the Olympic champion from Vancouver Sleptsova – from February 11, 2020.
