Former biathlete of the Bulgarian national team Krasimir Anev is in a medically induced coma after shooting himself in the stomach, reports Dir.bg .
As reported, the 36-year-old athlete’s condition is stable, but serious. Anev was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Military Medical Academy and doctors put him into an induced coma.
The document says Anev was found in the area of a dam near the Bulgarian town of Kyustendil. Police say he shot himself in the stomach with a licensed handgun. The former biathlete, retired in 2020, owns a pistol because he serves in the army. Since 2021, Anev has been an instructor and participates in the training of military personnel.
Anev’s last post on social networks before the incident was a quote from the writer Pavel Vezhinov, “all betrayal begins with trust”, which he himself commented on with the words “absolute truth”.
Anev is a winner and multiple medalist of the European Championships, medalist of the Summer Biathlon World Championships and participant of the Olympic Games in Vancouver, Sochi and Pyeongchang.
