Olympic champion Samuelsson criticized Bach and nominated his candidate for IOC chief

Swedish Olympic biathlon champion Sébastien Samuelsson criticized the head of the International Olympic Committee (CIO ) Thomas Bach and also appointed a person who, in his opinion, can replace the German in his position.

At the IOC session in Mumbai in October, a number of IOC members proposed changing the Olympic charter so that Bach could retain his post after 2025. Under current rules, the 69-year-old German official cannot be re-elected for a third term after his mandate expires in 2025. According to Samuelsson, the IOC could be led by Swede Olle Dahlin, who has headed the International Biathlon Union (IBU) since 2018.

“I believe that Thomas Bach is following a line that is not good for the sport, but only for him and his teammates.

This is by no means unique to sports, but all of these organizations attract people who want a lot of power and influence, then stay there for twelve years and become more and more corrupt every year. Unfortunately, this was often the case.

— Do you have a candidate who you think would be suitable?

— The problem is that to reach this position in the form in which this organization operates today, you have to be friendlier to everyone and not stand out, nor be an independent-minded person. I don’t know if there is a good candidate at the moment.

I think Olle Dahlin has done a very good job at the International Biathlon Union. “He could become IOC president,” Samuelsson said in an interview Aftonbladet .

Olympic fencing champion Bach led the IOC in 2013 and was re-elected in 2021 for an uncontested four-year term.
