“The International Club Biathlon League is a way for athletes to earn money and maintain motivation” – Olympic medalist Smolsky

Olympic silver medalist Anton Smolski believes that the International Club Biathlon League will allow athletes to gain and maintain motivation during the period of suspension of competition under the auspices of the International Biathlon Union (IBU).

The competition will take place on November 18 and 19 in Khanty-Mansiysk. Russian, Belarusian and Chinese biathletes will take part in the races. For victory, athletes will receive 1 million rubles.

— When I discovered these competitions, I thought it would be cool. Such competitions, let’s say openly, are an opportunity to make money. The level of our athletes is quite high: we have Olympic medalists, world and European champions. To at least maintain their skills, you need competitions that attract them. This will lead to progress. Today, top athletes, in my opinion, do not have the same motivation as they had during the preparation for the Olympic Games and the World Cup. I hope that these competitions will allow them to regain their motivation,” reports the correspondent according to Smolsky’s words.

The founders of the International Club Biathlon League were the regional biathlon club of the Moscow region and the Belarusian biathlon club. The main objective of the organization is to organize alternative IBU competitions. Since the clubs are not members of the IBU and the Russian Biathlon Union, the activities of the league do not fall under their jurisdiction.

The channel will broadcast live the races of the first Cup of the International Club Biathlon League.
