“I’ve been dreaming of World Cups lately.” Murashov – on motivation and post-Olympic psychology

World speed skating champion Ruslan Murashov this season, despite the second year of isolation, he continues to race at the level of the world summits. In an interview with , he spoke about his super skill at clearing unnecessary things from his head, as well as dealing with severe Covid ahead of the Olympics.

-What makes you run fast? For the second season you get world-class results. There was no desire to abandon all that, to retrain, to take courses, to go into IT?

— I won’t be able to get into IT anymore. Late! I’ve devoted all my brain to the sport, so I’m here and I’m earning what I can. I am an athlete and I love my job.

— You could become a hockey player!

— There, as I said earlier, there were difficulties with the coach, they could not establish relationships and my parents did not have the opportunity to send me to a boarding house in Moscow in that time. I got into speed skating.

— Do you sometimes want to play?

– Hockey? No. When I was 15, I erased it from my memory and tried not to remember it. I haven’t watched a single match, I change immediately if I happen to end up at a match. I don’t know who plays in the Russian national team, in which teams, in which leagues. I decided that there was a VHL in which Khimik-Voskresensk played.

— There was information that you were ready to set out to break the flatland world record.

— If the ice machines in our new skating rinks invent something, why not? The Dutch, one could say, are holding a consultation on this. If we have such people, I think everything will work out. The key is to have a team of people dedicated to this. Here in Kolomna, an ice rink record [у Дмитрия Лобкова] – 34.35 seconds, and this is, for me, such a dubious record. With me, Pasha Kulizhnikov ran 34.5. It turns out that for the record, you have to lose another half a second, that’s a lot.

The Dutch are now having strange results in the selection process. A person who had not missed 1 minute 10 seconds before runs 1 minute 08 seconds. People took two seconds at a time of their personal results, obviously they mixed something with something – either with air circulation or with chemistry. With chemistry on ice, I mean.

— Do you think the current result could be related to a certain equipment technology? Or is it the wrong time?

– Don’t think. The fact that rationalized cases were discussed certainly doesn’t contribute to wasting 2 seconds.

—Was it pre-Olympic hype?

– More likely.

— After the Beijing Olympic Games, you were very disappointed. How long did it take to recharge?

“I withdrew into myself and my family for six months, missed the first two training camps and was a little distracted. As in the case of hockey, I erased all this from my head – I already have such a super skill.

—You were so upset in Beijing. For me, you were a hero, considering how badly you suffered from corona. Or do you think it should be better?

— I am a maximalist by nature. I came this far. It seemed to me that I deserved more with these two coronaviruses, because I endured so much, I was seriously ill, I got back into shape three times. In general, I believed in my success.

– Was it serious?

— I was hospitalized twice, twice I was taken away with medication. I was starting to feel a cytokine storm, when the temperature goes up and doesn’t go down. I was given medications that suppress my own immunity. As soon as the temperature started to drop, I started doing lunges, with serious shortness of breath. My roommates looked at me like I was an idiot. I told them what was happening, then we even took a photo and they wished me luck.

—But there was a risk that you wouldn’t qualify at all!

– Yes. At one time Dmitry Anatolyevich [Дорофеев] explained the situation to us: “At the Olympics, either you or Pasha will run the 500m. » I got sick during qualifying and my temperature dropped to 37.3. Then he won 0.01 against Pasha.

— How do you handle such situations between you? Isn’t it difficult to communicate? Only one can win.

– Destiny connected us. He also has a difficult background, there has been a lot of everything in his career – pleasant and unpleasant. He inspires respect in me as an opponent, competitor, friend, teammate. There can be no aggression or hatred between us. Even if we have a different character: I am more closed, he is more open, but at the same time we really have a lot in common.

— We recently spoke with Lina Golikova about Zilveren Bal. Would you like us to compete with such dynamics?

— Lately, almost every day in my dreams I dream about the stages of the World Cup, about how I communicate with Kjeld Neis, the Japanese… I don’t even know in what language it happens, haha. When I stopped playing hockey, I also had dreams. The neural connections stay in the head and produce this. When the World Cup stages were suddenly taken away from us, it’s understandable that you would miss them. Everything is more interesting, more moving, more exciting than inside the country.

— Do you miss the attention of fans? Yet they know you there and love you. We have a very limited audience here.

– I think there is also such an addiction. Children and people wearing funny hats come there all the time. I really miss fans like that.

— Does Spartakiad heat you up the most in terms of motivation?

— So far there is an ambivalent attitude about this. The season is getting longer. The Russian Championship takes place in December, then the Russian Championship in January and February, and everywhere you have to be in good shape. If these three starts were carried out in two months, it would be easier to maintain optimal shape; three months is already a long time. We don’t know what to prepare for.

— Is the Russian Cup stage in St. Petersburg in your plans?

– No. There will be enough points. There is an open ice rink there, I didn’t really like it last year. It’s like another sport. In the 1000m, I wasn’t even in the top ten; by the second round, my legs were no longer able to stand up.

— It seems to me that if there is an open ice rink, it should be a cool event or at least just an interesting story. Just like at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam.

— It was unrealistically cool there. A large number of spectators, guests. Even the rain didn’t spoil the experience. If there had been such a stir, it would have been a different story. Everything went well there. Drone filming, well organized. Between the distances, a man was driving a car and playing the piano, and next to him was a girl holding an umbrella over the instrument. This will probably never happen again
