Former President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBR) Vladimir Drachev in a conversation with a correspondent, he said that the IBU was afraid of competition from club biathlon and therefore in every possible way interfered with its development.
The International Club Biathlon League Cup (ILCL) will take place on November 18-19 in Khanty-Mansiysk. Russian and Belarusian biathletes will take part in the races. For victory, athletes will receive 1 million rubles. Previously, Chinese biathletes refused to participate. According to the President of the Biathlon Federation of the Moscow Region, Alexei Nuzhdov, they refused to perform under pressure from the International Biathlon Union (IBU).
— Currently, club biathlon is a new trend. This will be a completely different development, both financially and in other ways. The club team can invite anyone. This can be encouraged, as in football for example. And the World and European Championships are held according to IBU rules. And of course, they don’t want to lose their importance, which is why they refer to China in this way. They show that for the moment they are dominant here. But I see development in club biathlon. We have a very technical sport, a club system would help to develop it. Club biathlon would open the way to something more professional. More than 20 years ago, club biathlon existed, Sergei Chepikov competed for almost two years in Norway, but apparently that was not the time for such a concept. He has a great future, Nuzhdov is on the right track,” Drachev told .
The founders of the International Club Biathlon League were the regional biathlon club of the Moscow region and the Belarusian biathlon club. The main objective of the organization is to organize alternative competitions to the International Biathlon Union (IBU). Since the clubs are not members of the IBU and the Russian Biathlon Union, the activities of the league do not fall under their jurisdiction.
The channel will broadcast live the races of the first International Biathlon Club League Cup.
