Head of the Moscow Region Biathlon Federation Alexei Nuzhdov stated that the International Club Biathlon League (ILCL) Cup was not created as a counterweight to the World Cup; the organizers are implementing this idea due to the exclusion of Russians and Belarusians from competitions under the auspices of the IBU.
The MLCB Cup will take place on November 18 and 19 in Khanty-Mansiysk. Russian, Belarusian and Chinese biathletes will take part in the races. For victory, athletes will receive 1 million rubles.
“I can confirm that we started discussing this project in the spring. We have come a long way in theory and practice. Considering the level of the athletes registered, this tournament looks very promising. We want to organize the tournament at a high level, even though we had very little time. I can say that 10 days before the start everything is 90% ready, we are not doing it against anyone. We do this based on the current situation. Today’s competitions do not meet the needs of athletes. We consider it our duty to do something so that our sport develops and does not disappear, ”reports the correspondent of , reporting Nuzhdov’s words.
The founders of the International Club Biathlon League were the regional biathlon club of the Moscow region and the Belarusian biathlon club. The main objective of the organization is to organize alternative competitions to the International Biathlon Union (IBU). Since the clubs are not members of the IBU and the Russian Biathlon Union, the activities of the league do not fall under their jurisdiction.
The channel will broadcast live the races of the first Cup of the International Club Biathlon League.
