General Director of the Belarusian Biathlon Club Evgeniy Chmil said that he does not see any obstacles to the recognition of the International Club Biathlon League (ILCL) by the International Biathlon Union (IBU).
The tournament competitions will take place on November 18 and 19 in Khanty-Mansiysk. Russian, Belarusian and Chinese biathletes will take part in the races. For victory, athletes will receive 1 million rubles.
– Everyone knows the situation in which Belarusian and Russian biathlon currently finds itself. Today, we have no concrete prospect of restoring rights at the international level. This whole situation has been going on for over a year, so it’s a mistake to sit around and wait for something. Based on this, after discussions with athletes and officials, we decided to create such a tournament. This idea was born in the spring of this year. The opinion of our Belarusians is very important. The number of major competitions in which they participate has been significantly reduced. Our national competitions are not that spectacular and it is not okay to stew in our own mess. All this suggests that the club project is a universal way out of this situation.
Since the competition was announced, many different opinions have been expressed. Many said it was to upset someone. We see it differently. In the future, there will be no obstacles to the recognition of MLCB at different levels, including by the International Biathlon Union, ”the correspondent reports Chmil’s words.
The founders of the International Club Biathlon League were the regional biathlon club of the Moscow region and the Belarusian biathlon club. The main objective of the organization is to organize alternative competitions to the International Biathlon Union (IBU). Since the clubs are not members of the IBU and the Russian Biathlon Union, the activities of the league do not fall under their jurisdiction.
