Executive Director of the International Club Biathlon League (ILCL), Valery Polkhovsky, said on that the creation of the tournament would contribute to the development of the sport in the country.
The first MLKB Cup will take place on November 18 and 19 in Khanty-Mansiysk. Russian and Belarusian biathletes will take part in the races. For victory, athletes will receive 1 million rubles.
— The tournament is still in the pilot stage, but what task do we set for ourselves by introducing the concept of “club biathlon”?
— On October 18, the Head of State gave a message on the development of interclub competitions. So, on November 18 and 19, the first stage of the International Club Biathlon League will be played in Khanty-Mansiysk. Many competitions have been held in this city, the experience is enormous. All structures are ready, we are ready to host this event.
— What are the prospects? What are the clubs? Where do we look and navigate?
– Today we have two clubs. We invited teams from China and Mongolia, but the federation recommended them not to participate in these competitions. But today we need to develop biathlon in Russia. I hope that clubs will gradually appear and develop this sport, from young people to adults. In the near future, I hope, all this will take a large place in club competitions.
— Concerning the composition of the participants: announce the main names, who to encourage?
— All the leaders of the Russian men’s team will perform here: Babikov, Latypov, Tsvetkov… Belarusians Smolsky and Lazovsky will be there. 52 male athletes and 48 female athletes.
We will have a very interesting competition, athletes will be able to test themselves, try everything in order to quickly move into competitive mode. Prize money is also an important point, ”Polkhovsky said on the air of the show “Loud! “.
The founders of the International Club Biathlon League were the regional biathlon club of the Moscow region and the Belarusian biathlon club. The main objective of the organization is to organize alternative competitions to the International Biathlon Union (IBU). Since the clubs are not members of the IBU and the Russian Biathlon Union, the activities of the league do not fall under their jurisdiction.
Russian and Belarusian biathletes were suspended from competitions under the auspices of the IBU.
The channel will broadcast live the races of the first Cup of the International Club Biathlon League.
