The strongest Ukrainian biathlete assured that he has no plans to end his career yet
Ukrainian biathlete Dmitry Pidruchny shared his future career plans, as well as his thoughts on what Ukrainian sports will be like after victory in the war.
“I plan to make an appropriate decision after each season whether to continue my career or not. This is influenced by the results during the season, the state of my body, the possibilities for me to continue my career, whether I can get into centralized training.”
“Therefore, I decided that after each season I will make appropriate decisions to continue preparing for the 2026 Olympics. Right now I have no plans to retire.”
“It’s difficult for me to say what sports will be like in Ukraine after the war. First you need to win. I have no doubts about victory, but the question is when exactly it will happen. Only after victory will we be able to talk about certain fundamental changes. Ukraine and Ukrainian sports will never again be the same as they were before February 24th. Sports also need reforms and innovations, so I think we will see a lot of positive changes.”
Let us remember that Pidruchny, who broke his arm in August, initially intended to return to the second or third stage of the World Cup. He later adjusted his return to standing for the Hochfilzen event in early December based on his recovery process.
The 2023/24 Biathlon World Cup starts in Ostersund, Sweden on November 25. The 2024 World Cup will be held in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, from February 7 to 18.
