The first competitions under the auspices of the International Club Biathlon League (ILCL) should have taken place 10 years ago, then all the best athletes would have come to Russia, a biathlete of the southern national team told -Korean. Timofey Lapshin .
The first MLKB Cup will take place on November 18 and 19 in Khanty-Mansiysk. Russian and Belarusian biathletes will take part in the races. For victory, athletes will receive one million rubles.
– This is generally a good idea, it’s just a plus for biathlon. Here you can develop a club system. I think it’s also a great platform for sponsors; It’s important that athletes get involved. This factor pushes biathlon to develop.
—If you had the chance, would you go?
– Now is a difficult time. For example, Chinese people were strongly advised not to go to these competitions. I think the same story would happen in the Korean federation. But the idea is very interesting, why not? If not for the current world situation, there would be people willing to do this. It should have been done 10 years ago, then all the best athletes would have come,” Lapshin told .
The founders of MLCB were the Regional Biathlon Club of the Moscow Region and the Belarusian Biathlon Club.
Lapshin played for the Russian national team until 2017, after which he changed his sports citizenship. The 35-year-old biathlete won silver and two bronze medals in personal races at the World Cup, as well as two victories and a bronze medal in relay races.
