Biathlon coach Artem Istomin explained why he decided to leave Yuri Kaminsky’s group.
According to information published on the website of the Russian Biathlon Union, Istomin’s group includes Daniil Serokhvostov, Karim Khalili, Natalya Gerbulova, Ekaterina Noskova, Elizaveta Kaplina, Anastasia Goreeva, Ksenia Dovgaya, Anastasia Zyryanova, Anastasia Grishina and Alina Kudisova.
— Yuri Mikhailovich trusted me a lot and did not point out all the mistakes. Maybe it happened once or twice, yes. But these were not so much methodological moments as educational ones. You see, if I had stayed in Kaminsky’s brigade, I probably would have just burned out. The situation had to change.
On the one hand, I understand: the more we work, the better. But we are limited by the health and recovery capabilities of the athlete, that’s why in each specific case we try to reach the limit that a person is capable of achieving. It’s as if we are constantly walking on the edge of possibility. So we have a lot of medical control. We monitor the ECG, the biochemistry, the anthropometry, and see if we are exaggerating in terms of intensity. The general “skeleton” of the job is pretty much the same for everyone. But we still negotiate some things individually,” Istomin told RT.
