The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is run by people who are harming the entire Olympic movement. It would be surprising if they didn’t try to discredit the Friendship Games, the two-time Olympic biathlon champion told . Dmitry Vasilyev .
Earlier on Friday, WADA Director General Olivier Niggli said Russia had no right to host the Friendship Games due to non-compliance by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA). of the World Anti-Doping Code.
— The leaders of these organizations are pests for the entire world Olympic movement. So it would be naive to believe that they won’t start plotting some sort of intrigue. So they start building them. But if we remember how they treat other national anti-doping agencies, we will see a different picture. For example, the famous case of British athlete Mo Farah: he was caught doping, he practically confessed, and when WADA asked for the B sample, WADA was sent to the appropriate location. And that’s it, we dried off, and then everything was back to normal. This is their approach. And regarding our RUSADA, for some reason they think it does not fit. Everything here is sewn with white thread. Everything is clear. It would be surprising if they didn’t do something to avoid discrediting our games. As long as the SVO is in progress, the situation will not change. As soon as the SVO ends, the next day, they will come running to make peace with us. It’s completely obvious. There cannot be two opinions here,” Vasiliev told .
In late 2019, WADA recognized RUSADA as non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code. In September this year, the WADA Executive Committee, at a meeting in Shanghai, came to the conclusion that RUSADA had not yet fulfilled the necessary conditions to restore its status. The WADA Executive Committee followed the recommendation of the Compliance Committee and established new criteria for the reinstatement of RUSADA.
As previously learned, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) sent letters to National Olympic Committees (NOCs) at the end of October calling on them to refuse to participate in the Friendship Games.
The Friendship Games will be held from September 15 to 29, 2024 in Moscow and Yekaterinburg.
