General Director of the International Club Biathlon League (ICBL) Alexei Nuzhdov said he would not be upset if it was not possible to hold another stage of the competition this year.
The first MLKB Cup will take place on November 18 and 19 in Khanty-Mansiysk. Russian and Belarusian biathletes take part in the races. The mass starts were won Karim Khalili And Anastasia Goreeva .
— The word “club” implies the presence of a kind of rivalry between clubs, a corresponding ranking. There are already clubs. Is the rest in the future?
– Certainly. First, we need a clear timetable. This year we will see if we can organize another stage – good. We can’t, it’s okay, the minimum task is accomplished. And we will already be thinking about next year. There is also a question about the format of the competition. Of course, we would like to organize relay races, but for that we need to work out the calendar again. So that it fits perfectly into Russian competitions, the Commonwealth Cup. These things need to be understood over the course of two to four stages and then we will develop a format so that there are relay races and the points for the clubs are calculated based on the results of the individual races. Little by little, our league will acquire club history, club rankings, etc.
— I spoke with the winner of the first race, Karim Khalili. He said this tournament was more of a training event for him. Do you have any ambition to get athletes to take the club league more seriously?
– I’ll tell you that. We need to be aware that the athlete may not be completely honest. He is obliged, like coaches, to take into account, so to speak, the “political” situation. All the guys are healthy people. Classically, it cannot be said that I did not care about these stages of the Russian Cup, but here I prepared more effectively. That would be a mistake. To say that it was a training stage, that the skis rolled well and that I won by chance, is also a right to life. The truth, as always, lies somewhere in between. As for ambitions, everyone has them. They come true when words match actions. If these competitions interest athletes for several reasons, then success will come,” Nuzhdov told Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
On Sunday, as part of the PARI MLCB, pursuit races will take place; watch live broadcasts at 9:05 and 11:20 (Moscow time) on the channel.
