Biathlete Karim Khalili said that during the general start race of the PARI Cup of the International Club Biathlon League (MLCB), he focused more on the result and not on the prize money awarded for victory.
Khalili won the mass start in Khanty-Mansiysk on Saturday, beating Belarusian Anton Smolsky on the final lap. For winning the race, the 25-year-old Russian will receive one million rubles, Smolsky – 500,000 rubles.
— When you approached the last shoot with Belarusian Anton Smolsky, did you have thoughts like – now I’m going to shoot, and I have a million in my pocket?
—My thoughts were more about winning, not about a million. Somehow I tried to chase them away.
— It seemed that Smolsky’s skis worked better: on the last lap, you looked like you were going to get away from him, but he caught up with you…
— I wouldn’t say his skis worked better. I’m happy with mine too. It’s just that there are quite long and gentle slopes here, and it’s easier for those behind. Probably because of this he managed to ride.
— And yet, is the International Club Biathlon League a start of training or something more serious?
— More like training, probably. During the entire break-in period, I only did one difficult job. I didn’t think that from the first race it would be possible to impose a real fight. I’m very happy that it worked.
— On the second day of the stage, did you still have motivation? Or is it done?
– Of course, she stayed. We must continue to set tasks and solve them.
— Do you already know how you are going to spend the million you won?
“I have to prepare for the wedding, so I will find where to spend it,” Khalili said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
On Sunday, as part of the PARI MLCB, pursuit races will take place; watch live broadcasts at 9:05 and 11:20 (Moscow time) on the channel.
