General Director of the International Club Biathlon League (ICBL) Alexei Nuzhdov denied the information according to which he had decided to organize the tournament “despite” the Russian Biathlon Union (RBR).
The first PARI MLCB races took place on Saturday in Khanty-Mansiysk.
— When you started talking about the creation of the MLCB, it was clear in advance that all this would be perceived through the prism of your relations with the Russian Biathlon Union, during the elections for the post of president of which you lost (to Viktor Maigurov). They say new competitions are being held despite the RBU. Were you ready for this?
— This may seem like bravado, but for me this relationship… Understand, biathlon, this tournament is my hobby. I love doing this. For me, it’s not a job. I don’t get money for it, I spend it. I know all the guys, their parents, their destiny. Someone comes to work, gets paid for it, and considers themselves a professional. I live by that. And they tell me I’m doing something to upset someone. Absurdity.
— The other day, the vice-president of the RBU, Pavel Rostovtsev, gave a resounding interview in which, in particular, he said that he did not understand the meaning of these competitions.
– Unfortunately, I was not surprised. It would be better to be surprised.
— You said that the future of MLKB will depend on the evaluation of a number of factors. It is clear that it is too early to judge, but after the first day, are there any positive prospects for the new tournament?
– Visible. This time a lot happened. Starting with the weather and ending with the sports aspect. After all, breaches could have formed immediately and there would have been no intrigue. Here, in this respect, everything coincides. Of course, it’s too early to judge. We have to watch the television audiences, speak coldly with coaches and athletes. Meanwhile… everything could have gone wrong on day one. So far, that’s it,” Nujdov said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
The founders of the International Club Biathlon League were the regional biathlon club of the Moscow region and the Belarusian biathlon club. The main objective of the organization is to organize alternative competitions to the International Biathlon Union (IBU).
On Sunday, as part of the PARI MLCB, pursuit races will take place; watch live broadcasts at 9:05 and 11:20 (Moscow time) on the channel.
