A lot of time has passed since two-time Olympic medalist Kristina Reztsova’s last winter race. During this period, many different events occurred in the biathlete’s life, including the loss of her mother. And in order not to open the wound, it was decided not to address this subject any further. The new season will be psychologically difficult for the athlete, but she has a team at her side – two daughters, her husband and parents, about whom the conversation will begin.
In an interview with , Kristina explained why every time they move, their car turns into Tetris, talked about firing her father-in-law for the overall result and also said that she is not bothered by she. conscience when she leaves her children and goes for training.
— After the birth of your first child, everyone said that you had become more mature and wiser. What changed after the birth of your second daughter?
— I started to get tired more quickly (Laughs). She has probably become calmer in her relationships with children. If with Sasha I ran like a chicken after an egg: go here, don’t go there, but now I have become a little calmer. More freedom for Sasha and Polina. It’s probably like everyone else with their second child.
— When you have two little girls, don’t you want to devote more time to them and not to sports?
– I want. I don’t know people who don’t want to spend more time with their children. When I gave birth to Sasha, it was more difficult for me mentally, because I was not ready. When Polina was born, she began to take things more calmly. Perhaps this is due to the fact that I have not left Polina for a long time. But now when I go to training, my conscience doesn’t mind leaving my children. I made the choice to present myself, and if I doubted it, it would only harm me. I won’t be here or there, so during training I focus on work, at home I focus on my family.
— Do Vanya’s parents accompany you to all training camps?
– Yes, yes, we are all here together now: the girls, me, Vanya and her parents. I want to say a huge thank you to them, they do a very good job. If previously only my grandmother traveled with us, now my grandfather has completely adapted to everything. Their help is simply invaluable. If they weren’t there, I wouldn’t be able to leave permanently. Vanya and I agreed that we would all go together. No other options were discussed. At least while I feed Polina, and it will take about a year, we will all travel together. I don’t know what will happen next, but we will try to travel together, especially since in Russia everyone has the opportunity to travel. By the way, Grandpa quit his job for us.
– Seriously?
– Yes (Laughs). Grandma hasn’t stopped yet, but she’s taken all her vacation time. We had initially planned for teamwork, where everyone understands the area of responsibility and does their best for my result, even if it is said very loudly. But it’s true. If someone’s efforts weren’t enough, I would barely be here.
— Vanya jokingly called it a gypsy camp.
– It’s true (Laughs). We take the whole house with us: we have a lot of toys, two cribs, strollers for Polina, a sled, skis for Sasha… We really have everything! All that you want. If someone is missing something, come and see us – we will take care of the kindergarten!
– Added to this is also the fact that biathletes’ luggage is very important: a suitcase with skis, weapons, personal effects.
– Yes, we have three cases, Armes Vanya says that it is time for us to buy another car and a trailer, because this one no longer fits us. It’s like trying to fit everything that’s happening into Tetris! Even if we have a box on the roof, it is of no use. It seems to me that if we had a truck, we would fill it with stuff too.
— Does Sasha already understand what you’re doing?
– Yes, she understands that mom and dad go to work, that our training and training camps are our income, which we use to travel, eat and buy her toys. We try to explain to her that we’re not leaving like that, especially when she asks to go for a walk. Of course, like a child, she is offended, but she also perceives it adequately, because we all say: as soon as we return, we will definitely go for a walk and play. And it’s no longer the case that Sasha is jealous of our absence. Well, my grandparents are doing everything they can to replace us.
— Do you and Vanya have the task of turning girls into biathletes and continuing the dynasty?
– Absolutely not. Our task is to offer everything they want. Let them try, choose, evolve in all aspects: if you want to draw, sketch, ski, go. We have such a position that a child must be developed in everything, and when he becomes a little older, he will choose what he wants to do. We don’t have a purely sporting goal, as was the case in my family.
– Let’s talk a little about you. Will a certain place in the general classification be important at the end of the season?
— I don’t think about the place I will take in the general classification. I’m preparing for Spartakiad and the Russian Championship, it’s more of a focused preparation. You can loudly declare that I am fighting for the “total”, but that is not the case. First of all, I want to be satisfied with my work. Separately in shooting, in technique, in speed, in power, so that I can put everything together and get the result. I don’t think about personal places in the rankings.
— Which trainers are you currently working with?
– Everything is as usual – here is my coach (points to her husband). We also work with Vitaly Viktorovich Noritsyn, with whom we are in constant contact: all plans and preparations are made only with him and only through him. Vanya controls all this, scolds me and says that I can’t do anything – it’s a joke (Laughs). Vitaly Viktorovich sets tasks, I carry them out, and Vanya reports to him.
— Tell us a little more about your expectations for the season.
– Now I have more preparation than competition, because this year I started training quite late and I didn’t gain much volume. For me, the first part of the season, somewhere before the New Year, will not even be an accelerating part, but a preparatory part. That is, I will not reduce the load between starts, I will gain aerobic strength and in addition to competitions I will do a lot of volume. We decided this with the coaches, because my work clearly shows that at the moment I lack aerobic activity. I don’t know how to rate myself, but I feel pretty good. Yes, it’s hard and you can feel it, but competition is excitement, so I’m going to run and fight with all my might.
— Do you want to surpass your own results before the birth of your second child?
— To overcome them, we must return to the international scene (Laughs). Of course, I want to grow to where I arrived. I am no longer interested in places, but in my qualities: growing in the same shot that I did not achieve during the Olympic season, technically and in many other ways. I want to reach the starting point of the Olympic season and go higher from there. I think it won’t be this season, but next.
It would be loud to say that this season will pass, but it will be to feel and understand how much reserve I have after the birth of two children. The second delivery and the pregnancy itself were a little more difficult, hence the injuries. This all adds up to the fact that I’ve only just gotten back into shape. Let’s see how much health I have, how much patience I have (Laughs). But as long as we have the strength and motivation, we will continue to run!
