Biathlete Daria Virolainen joined the Finnish national team for the first stage of the IBU Cup, which will take place in Kontiolahti.
Earlier it became known that the International Biathlon Union (IBU) had authorized Virolainen to represent Finland in international competitions in the 2023/24 season. The athlete has lived with her family in Finland since 2016, but at that time she played for the Russian national team and, as a member of the team, won gold at the 2017 European Championship in singles doubles mixed.
Virolainen, 34, joined the Finnish national team with six other biathletes. The IBU Cup stage in Kontiolahti, Finland will take place from November 30 to December 3. During the stage, women will participate in the individual race (15 km), the sprint (7.5 km), as well as the mixed relay and the mixed singles.
Virolainen is the eldest daughter of three-time Olympic champion Anfisa Reztsova, who died on October 19, 2023.
