The prosecutor’s office demanded 10 years in prison and a fine for the former head of the Russian Biathlon Union (SBR) and the ex-head of the Sports Training Center of Russian National Teams (TSSP) Alexandra Kravtsova in an embezzlement case, as reported by the Telegram channel of the Moscow Bar Association “Legal Block”.
The prosecutor also requested that Kravtsov be banned from serving as director for three years and that the other defendants in the case be sentenced to eight years in prison. The verdict will be announced on November 30.
Kravtsov was arrested in September 2020. According to investigators, between May 2014 and July 2017, he hired several people for different positions at the Social Security Center, but the employees, although they received a salary, did not actually work. The amount of damage caused by Kravtsov’s actions is estimated at 14.45 million rubles.
— Leaving aside the incorrect legal qualification of such acts – in accordance with numerous clarifications of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, they must be qualified under part 1 of article 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – the 10 and 8 years requested for a non-violent act is an incontestable record of seriousness.
Especially since our clients were doing their job. They were responsible for the conduct of the Olympic Games, doping issues, compliance of Olympic facilities with safety standards, trained Olympic champions and world champions and acted as translators from Portuguese and English at international meetings the most important.
The salaries consist of small amounts that, the prosecution alleges, our clients “stole” because their work did not exactly match their job title in their employment documents, the report notes.
Kravtsov headed the TsSP from 2009 to 2020 and was chairman of the SBR from 2014 to 2018.
