The income level of members of the Russian national biathlon teams has not decreased after their exclusion from international competitions, the head of the RBU said. Viktor Maygurov.
Russian and Belarusian biathletes are currently suspended from competitions under the auspices of the International Biathlon Union (IBU).
— We now manage to form a prize fund at the expense of the RBU sponsors, and the regional federations are 99% financed by local budgets and partly by assistance from the RBU for the purchase of equipment. The main work of the federation is aimed precisely at solving regional problems. Those who are part of the national teams are, one way or another, in a much more advantageous position: their income level has not decreased, whatever anyone says. Yes, someone could hypothetically earn more by participating in the World Cup stages, but this is a maximum of five people, or even less,” Maigurov said in an interview with RT.
The head of the RBU also confirmed that in terms of prize money, the Commonwealth Cup and the Russian Cup currently look preferable for many biathletes.
— Last year we won prizes for 70 adult and 111 junior athletes who previously had not received any money. In total, the SBR paid out around 90 million rubles in prizes. I think it’s a decent amount. This season, our prize money will be supplemented by substantial state payments for a successful performance at the Spartakiad, where the winner of a race will receive more than 300,000 rubles. I think it’s a decent amount,” Maygurov said.
