The new season will open with the single mixed relay at 1:30 p.m.
Head coach Ukrainian men’s biathlon team Juraj Sanitra commented on the team’s preparation for the opening stage in Östersund in World Cup 2023/24.
“I am very pleased with the last training camp we held in Kontiolahti. It’s good that the guys didn’t have any health problems. It was difficult to determine the top six for this stage of the World Cup, because Vitaly Mandzyn showed himself well. Ruslan Tkalenko has some things to improve, but the guys at the last control start moved optimistically on the track and shot in good conditions. Therefore, if compared with previous seasons, we are moving in a slightly better psychological state.”
“I had to choose a six to close the starts in Östersund. After all, the program here is very difficult, and I think there are the best six among those available.”
“As for the mixed relay, there were no questions regarding the first stage, the second was decided a little, because there were more candidates to close it. But they decided that now it is Anton Dudchenko, who ran well in the last start in Kontiolahti.”
“We are focusing on the World and European Championships, but we want to show ourselves at every World Cup competition. To have contact with all the best athletes who will be ahead. I think that out of the five athletes who will be at the start, each time one will be able to show such a result that we will be satisfied with the team’s performance.”
“I will be pleased if we fight for the top 10 in the Nations Cup. Because I see that the United States, which has a naturalized New Zealander, Campbell Wright, will have a stronger team. The Finns, the Swiss, and the Estonians also added that they will be strong. So the men in the top 10 will have a very tough fight.”
There will be two races on the first day of competition in Östersund. The season will open with a single mixed relay, followed by a classic mixed relay.
Competitions will continue in Östersund on Sunday with individual races. The first stage will end in a week, on December 3.
