The biathlete missed almost the entire last season due to illness
Ukrainian biathlete Irina Petrenko spoke about her return to competition World Cup at the stage in Swedish Ostersund.
“Haven’t seen me for a long time. Last year I almost didn’t perform. Now everything is fine, my health feels more or less normal.”
“Of course, it will be very difficult to start. Perhaps psychologically, first of all, because you don’t understand what level you are at, considering that these are international competitions. Otherwise, I think everything will be fine.”
“Östersund? I don’t even know what to say. She performed here for a long time. The year before last I came here for the first stage, but did not start – I went to the IBU Cup because I had health problems. Of course I want to run. Because I’m already tired of routine work, training every day. I would like the competitive period to begin sooner.”
“Participation in the mixed relay? In principle it’s good, I love contact races, such as pursuits and relays. I feel comfortable competing at such distances.”
Petrenko is a silver medalist at the 2017 World Championships in the relay. The Ukrainian practically missed the previous season due to a long illness. At the Ostersund stage, Irina will start in the mixed relay.
On Saturday, the first day of the competition in Sweden will be a single mixed relay and a mixed team relay. Competitions will continue in Östersund on Sunday with individual races. The first stage will end in a week, on December 3.
