Ivan Melikhov, vice-president of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) for competitions, told that the start of the Russian season takes place at the World Cup level.
On Saturday, Tamara Derbusheva and Kirill Bazhin won the single mixed relay at the first stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk.
– Everything is fine. Everyone – the organizing committee, judges, volunteers, arena – works harmoniously, it is not for nothing that we choose Khanty-Mansiysk to host the competition. Today there were around two thousand spectators in the stands, and even more are expected tomorrow.
The athletes are happy with the conditions, everyone is snowing, everyone is helping us. We hold competitions at the World Cup level,” Melikhov told .
Previously, the SBR announced a series of team prologues before the stages of the Russian Cup and other competitions of the new season. The competitions will take place in ski sprint (100 m) or shooting duels separately between men and women. At the same time, the 100-meter ski race will, if possible, be organized not at the biathlon stadium, but in the city itself. The first stage of the ski sprint prologue will take place on November 28. The winning team will receive 1 million rubles.
“This will attract attention and aims to popularize biathlon in the country.” So that people who cannot get to the stadium can see the best biathletes in Russia,” Melikhov emphasized.
