Sanitra: I didn’t recognize some of the athletes. Two days of travel after Finland killed our fitness

Ukrainian biathletes performed unsuccessfully in the individual race in Östersund

Trainer Ukrainian men’s biathlon team Juraj Sanitra appreciated the team’s performance in the individual race at the stage in Östersund. The mentor noted that the athletes physically sagged after moving from Finland.

“On the positive side, shooting. I think that with such shooting we should have shown better results. As for the movement along the track, I didn’t recognize some of the athletes, because we also lost to those who ran with us in Finland. Two days of travel after Finland killed our existing physical fitness. But I am sure that we will rise in the relay, and there will be a different movement. Almost everyone didn’t show what they should have.”

“Tishchenko’s miss at the last turn? It’s always like that in these starts. The desire to make a “zero”, but even so it was only a mistake at the last shooting. That’s great. His movement along the distance was not the same as in the single relay. It was clear that he was riding at a pace that was not enough for his rivals.”

“Denis [Насыко] I started poorly in prone, made two misses, then got my act together with shooting. His movement is also not fast enough. I haven’t talked to the biathletes yet about how the skis were, maybe it had an impact. But it’s okay, let’s move on. The relay is in three days, I need to think about how to optimally organize the relay with this team composition. We are preparing further.”

“What to do with Dudchenko’s shooting? Anton can’t cope with the shooting. After two misses in the first prone shooting, I thought it could be worse, but then he pulled himself together and shot well in the standing position and the second prone position. I’m sure this will help him. And when he physically shows what he can do, he will help 100% in the relay race.”

The best result among the Ukrainians was shown by Artem Tishchenko, who made one mistake – 38th place. Taras Lesyuk finished the race 49th, Bogdan Tsymbal – 52nd, Denis Nasyko – 54th, Anton Dudchenko – 56th. The winner of the individual race was the German Roman Rees.

The stage in Östersund will last on November 29 with the women’s relay. Next on the program are the men’s team race, sprints and pursuit races.
