“There is a feeling that Russian biathletes are ready to show good results on the international stage” – Latypov

Triple Olympic medalist Edward Latypov believes that Russian biathletes are ready to show good results at international competitions.

— When it comes to international competitions, almost all experts are unanimous: if anyone forces the Norwegians to fight, it will be Eduard Latypov. Does such self-confidence inspire you or, on the contrary, does it impose additional responsibility on you?

“It’s good that people believe in my strength.” I train and play with the same thoughts. But it’s difficult to assess its level internationally. Nevertheless, we feel that we are ready to show good results and fight for victory. I’m not just talking about me, but our team as a whole. I look at guys younger and my age and I see potential.

— Is there a fear that, even if we are sidelined, our competitors will get a head start?

– Probably not. We also work and train. We are preparing according to the same plans as in previous years. The only thing missing is that we can’t compare ourselves to guys from other countries. So I think that when we return, a period of transition is inevitable. We won’t feel comfortable right away. But a few races, and we will already have the right resource. It’s a question of adaptation.

— Your coach Yuri Kaminsky says the 2026 Olympics are your main motivation…

– For now yes. But nothing depends on us here. We are preparing, we hope that the situation in the world will change and we will leave,” Latypov quotes Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

Russian and Belarusian biathletes are currently suspended from competitions under the auspices of the International Biathlon Union (IBU).
