Biathlete Alexander Kornev who won the first stage of the ski sprint prologue in Khanty-Mansiysk, said he wanted to be in the final with Evgeny Emerkhonov and put on a show.
The prologue is a pre-departure competition, organized for the first time by the SBR before the main competition program of the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup, Championship and Cup of Russia in eight cities of the country. Athletes without rifles competed in the elimination rounds, starting with the quarterfinals. In the decisive 100 meters, Kornev from the “Children of Alexander Pak” team was faster than Denis Irodov (“One Right”). In the small final, Evgeny Emerkhonov (“The Children of Alexander Pak”) was ahead of Dmitry Ivanov (“Chuck-Chuck Norris”).
— We had this plan: we wanted to enter the final with Evgeny Emerkhonov and put on a little show, but we didn’t succeed. He was unlucky to reach the final, but that doesn’t matter. Before the start, I thought that Emerkhonov would be the big favorite in these competitions,” reports the correspondent of , reporting Kornev’s words.
The biathletes compete in four teams. At each individual stage, the winners of the competition receive 50, 40 and 30 thousand rubles and points for ranking, respectively. The winning team will receive 1 million rubles at the end of the season.
