The coach of the women’s team analyzed the unsuccessful results of the relay race performed by his players
Senior coach Ukrainian women’s biathlon team Nikolay Zots commented on the disappointing results of the women’s relay for our team at the first stage World Cup 2023/24 in Östersund, Sweden.
“When we are already forming a team, it is better to take a step back, so that later we can take two steps forward.”
“We didn’t succeed a little from the very beginning, the first stage. And Christina’s [Дмитренко] after prone shooting there was a situation where six teams were walking – she could have walked in this group, but lost contact. I spent a lot of energy before the “stand”, then I fumbled around with a spare cartridge during shooting – and that’s it, the teams left.”
“The second stage didn’t work out for us at all. We knew that we were taking some risks. Daria Blashko had repeated training, and she said that she felt more or less well. But the second stage was a complete failure. Haven’t seen her yet after the finish, [не спрашивал], what happened there, what happened to your health. I’m not just talking about the “stand” – rather, the shooting was like that because of how I felt. We still need to talk, it’s too early to talk now.”
“There are no complaints about other girls, but when you fall out of contact in such races, then 12th place with our team after the finish is like a loss, not a worthy place.”
“Dmitrenko’s hands are frozen? Christina is no longer such a young athlete who is running for the first time in such weather. We knew that such situations could happen, so there was no need to make such excuses. You need to be prepared for this.”
Let us remind you that Ukraine finished 12th in the women’s relay. It was started by Kristina Dmitrenko, a debutant at this level of competition, as part of our team. She finished her stage 13th, losing time on the second shooting range.
Daria Blashko was responsible for the second stage, for whom this was the first start in the new season. Daria had to run a penalty loop, and after the second stage Ukraine had to rise from penultimate, 17th place. Anna Krivonos and Irina Petrenko corrected the situation a little for our team.
As a result, Ukraine was more than six minutes behind the winning team of Norway in the relay.
Tomorrow, November 30, the men’s relay race will take place in Östersund.
