Senior men’s coach Russian national team biathlon Yuri Kaminsky told that Nikita Porshnev made the hasty decision to end his career; such an emotional outburst could have been influenced by an unsuccessful sprint performance at the Russian Cup stage.
On Friday, 27-year-old Porshnev took 106th place in the sprint of the second stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk. After the race, the biathlete, who was not a member of the Russian team, told that he had decided to end his professional career.
— Are you surprised by Nikita’s statement?
– Of course, I’m surprised. He’s still a young athlete, he still has time to run and run. I think he said it in his heart. I hope he changes his mind.
– What do you think could make him talk like that?
– Probably today’s failure. I know the coach expressed his dissatisfaction. Nikita started after an illness, it was her decision. He made mistakes that an athlete of such class as Porshnev has no right to make.
—Is it true that he recently took antibiotics?
“Yes,” Kaminsky told .
Porshnev is the 2019 World Championship bronze medalist in the relay race, the 2022 European Championship silver medalist in the sprint and the 2019 Universiade winner in the 20 kilometer individual race. The athlete has been married to biathlete Anastasia Morozova since 2019. In July 2022, a daughter, Maya, was born in the family.
