World speed skating champion Ruslan Murashov admitted that he considers the Ural Lightning rink record simply a pleasant bonus for memory.
Murashov won the all-around sprint competition at the Russian Cup stage in Chelyabinsk on Friday with an ice rink record over the sum of four distances.
— Is the rink’s all-around sprint record valuable, or have they not run all four distances decently for so long that this points total should have been updated long ago?
“I believe that anyone who thinks about records still has a very long way to go to achieve them. I think the motivation should be different. I only discovered the record on the podium when they offered me a nice souvenir for the overall amount. This is a pleasant bonus for memory,” Murashov told .
– How do you feel? Did you successfully start this without any problems?
“I didn’t approach the start in the best conditions, because at home, in Kolomna, I had a kind of flu and I missed several important training sessions before the start. Well, we have to get used to the new realities: now we have to get sick not once a year, but three times. You can’t fight these new strains and viruses. But I’m no longer afraid of them, we can’t escape them anymore.
— Should the ice be improved in Chelyabinsk for the Spartakiad? Or was it a normal quality product?
— The ice wasn’t bad, surprisingly smooth. There were little nuances that I noticed: these are spots under the ice. It seems to me that they emerge from the mass skating that takes place there. I hope that at Spartakiade the ice cream will be cleaner and faster. And there is no doubt that Chelyabinsk ice makers do their job well. I have no complaints. The results that were demonstrated during the competitions will speak better for me about the quality of the ice.
