Former President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBR) Vladimir Drachev suggested that Nikita Porshnev ended his career to become the father of many children.
On Friday, Porshnev took 106th place in the sprint of the second stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk. After the race, the 27-year-old biathlete, who was not part of the Russian national team, told that he had decided to end his professional career. Later, the RBU press service announced that the biathlete would return to competition after a “short break”.
“Maybe there is not just one reason for such a statement, but several, there is a clue. You have to be closer to Nikita to understand the essence of such a decision. Maybe he doesn’t see any incentives or prospects for development. At the moment, he has almost no reason.
“He said the main reason was family.
– Of course, you have to take care of your family. Maybe Porshnev wants to become a father of many children, to increase the demographics, as President Vladimir Putin says. As always, we don’t have much on the surface. The 106th place finish may have been a small step toward something he had long wanted to do.
— Do you think he will come back and continue to please us with the results? The SBR said it was a short break.
– Yes, we are happy, we are fans. Above all, Nikita must have fun. Sport is for us, if we consider it as a whole. An athlete prepares to show himself, it’s a certain life. Porshnev will miss something now and he might come back: training, loss of incentive, loss of performance in life,” Drachev told .
Pursuit races will take place on Saturday during the second stage of the Russian Cup. At 09:35 Moscow time, the broadcast of the men’s pursuit race began, and at 12:50 Moscow time, the broadcast of the women’s race began. Watch live broadcasts on the channel, matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru sites.
