German biathlete Philippe Navrat won gold in the sprint race at the first stage of the World Cup in Ostersund, Sweden.
Navrat, who made no mistakes in the stages, posted a result of 24 minutes 2 seconds. Norwegian Tarjei Boe took second place (0 penalties; +18.7 seconds). Norwegian Vebjorn Soerum also finished third (0 penalties, +19.8 seconds).
The five-time Olympic champion, Norwegian Johannes Boe, completed three penalty laps and took 18th position, losing a minute and a half to the leader.
The opening stage of the World Cup will end on Sunday with the pursuit races.
