“Without Russia, competition and meaning are lost” – Tikhonov on the suspension of Russian athletes

Quadruple Olympic biathlon champion Alexander Tikhonov told that Russia’s absence from the Winter and Summer Olympics would have an even more serious impact on the competition.

The IOC suspended the ROC’s membership in October due to the inclusion of the Olympic councils of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the ROC. It was reported that the IOC reserves the right to decide on the admission of individual Russian athletes to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and the 2026 Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in neutral status.

— What do you think of the participation of Russian athletes in the Paris Olympics?

— I believe that without Russia, competition, meaning, opinions on television and in the press are lost. After all, the Soviet Union and Russia have traditionally been the United States’ only competitors in the Summer Olympics. And at the Winter Olympics, no one without us can compete with the Norwegians. Today I would call those who are causing all this chaos a bunch of political idiots.

— Should we participate in the Olympic Games?

– Necessary! It’s our life. The sporting career is short, just like the festive career. For athletes, it’s a lifelong dream. I understand them

— Are the competitions currently organized in Russia a good substitute for international competitions?

“Yes,” Tikhonov told .

The Summer Olympics in the French capital will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
