Double Olympic champion Dmitry Vasilyev told that the biathlete Nikita Porshnev allowed himself excessive emotions in his statements after a difficult preparatory period.
On Friday, Porshnev took 106th place in the sprint of the second stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk. After the race, the 27-year-old biathlete, who was not part of the Russian national team, told that he had decided to end his professional career. Later, the RBU press service announced that the biathlete would return to competition after a “short break”.
— These are not the whims of an athlete, but excessive emotions. It happens that a biathlete gets tired after a hard preparation for the season, and this especially happens when it is also accompanied by an illness. It was boiling hot, so Porshnev blurted out without thinking. It happens. This statement seemed strange to me. It would seem that you have completed the entire preparatory period, run for fun, be happy. And here it is. If such comments were seen at the end of the season, we would understand. But we can already see that the information is starting to be corrected.
— So, are you sure that we will see Nikita again at competitions this season?
– I would like to believe it. Look how competitive it is. Where is the same Smolsky who made a move? Where is Khalili? There are guys from whom little results are expected, like Bazhin. It’s nice to see the picture, the fight continues in all areas. We cannot say in advance who will win the stage. It is clear that there are leaders: Latypov, Smolsky, Loginov. All this suggests that interest in biathlon is not decreasing, but only growing, ”Vasiliev told .
On Saturday in Khanty-Mansiysk, Kirill Bazhin became the winner of the pursuit race. He covered the distance of 12.5 km in 33 minutes 59.6 seconds, making one mistake at the shooting range. Alexander Loginov took second place (1 miss, +24.5), Eduard Latypov took third place (4 misses, +1.01.4).
Later on Saturday, the women’s pursuit race will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk. Live broadcast on the channel will begin at 13:00 (Moscow time).
