Alexander Povarnitsyn: “You can’t argue with physiology, that’s why at the end of the mass start I couldn’t catch up with Bazhin”

Biathlete Alexander Povarnitsyn told that he could not become third in the mass start of the stage of the Alfa-Bank Cup of Russia in Khanty-Mansiysk, because at the end of the race it was difficult for him to endure muscle pain and produce good power.

Povarnitsyn became fourth on Sunday in the general start race, losing to the winner – Edward Latypov – 24.3 seconds. Took second place Anton Smolski (+12.8), third – in Kirill Bajine (+20.4).

“I feel like I’m not in the shape I should be in.” And that affects my work in the last lap. Usually when I’m heavily acidified I can handle it and complete the finish lap. Now I can’t produce good energy anymore. I caught up with Kirill Bazhin on the climb, but in the end I could not get around him. You can’t argue with physiology. I always start running away before the New Year. At the start of the season, I tried to show what I probably wasn’t capable of yet. I understand that we need to build on our current state,” Povarnitsyn told .

Later on Sunday the women’s mass start will take place; the race will be broadcast live from 11:10 a.m. (Moscow time) on the channel, as well as on the sites sportbox.ru and matchtv.ru.
