“In this fight we push ourselves and progress” – Latypov on competing at the Russian Biathlon Cup

Russian biathlete Edward Latypov spoke about the competition this season.

On Sunday, Latypov won the mass start of the Alfa-Bank Russian Biathlon Cup stage in Khanty-Mansiysk. The 29-year-old athlete covered a distance of 15 kilometers in 42 minutes 17.9 seconds, making three mistakes. The second was Belarusian Anton Smolsky (+12.8) with two misses, the top three was completed by Kirill Bazhin (+20.4), who made four misses.

— I like the fact that we have strong competition at the Russian Cup. The fight continues until the end, and in this fight we push each other and progress. During the race, there is not a second to relax, and it is also interesting for fans to watch such a fight. On the third line, I approached too quickly because I was in the catching role and I didn’t manage the last two shots. I approached the fourth stage more comfortably and did well.

In the third and fourth rounds I didn’t feel good. The muscles did not obey well, there was a loss of energy. Because of the cold, a lot of energy is wasted. In the fourth round I was sad, but then I was able to mobilize in the last part of the distance,” Latypov said, as quoted by Metaratings.ru.
