Swedish biathlete Sébastien Samuelsson won the pursuit race at the first stage of the World Cup in Östersund (Sweden).
Samuelsson clocked 31 minutes, 38.4 seconds with three shooting penalties. The German Philipp Nawrath won silver (2 penalties, +5.1 seconds), the leading trio was completed by the Norwegian Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen (1 penalty, +7.2 seconds). Norwegian five-time Olympic champion Johannes Boe (3 penalties, +1.23.6) took 15th place.
Frenchwoman Lou Jeanmonnot won the women’s pursuit (31:41.3, 0 penalties). The Germans Franziska Preuss (1 penalty, +0.3 seconds) and Vanessa Voigt (1 penalty, +18.5 seconds) finished next.
The second stage of the World Cup will take place in Hochfilzen, Austria, from December 8-10. Russian biathletes have been suspended from international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.
