“There is a sharp pain in the throat. You can run to the maximum, but there may be consequences” – biathlete Tomshin

Biathlete Vasily Tomshin explained why he decided to take part in the control training after the cancellation of the women’s mass start at the Russian Cup stage in Tyumen.

Three hours before the start of the first race, journalists accompanied by a technical delegate and the competition jury went to three points where the temperature on the track was measured. At the lowest point, the temperature dropped to -23 degrees.

After that it was decided to cancel the whole stage. Coach Mikhail Shachilov’s women’s group held a test race between them, with Tomshin and Kirill Bazhin starting with them.

— Why did you go to the starting line with the girls? Then there are severe frosts, I am unlikely to be able to train well, and I decided that such training would only be a plus. I wasn’t in a hurry because they did everything correctly (cancellation of the race), big health risk. In order not to expire, I held back.

Now I have a sharp pain in my throat. If you run to the max, it’s possible, but there may be consequences. Reaction to the cancellation of a stage? We always want to compete and it’s a shame if the starts are canceled, but what can we do if the weather is like that. Health is more important. It’s great that we managed to organize such a mini-competition,” Tomshin said on .
