Virolainen joined the Finnish biathlon team for two World Cup events

Biathlete Daria Virolainen included in the Finnish national team for two World Cup stages in December in Austria and Switzerland, reports the press service of the Finnish Biathlon Federation.

The Finnish women’s team will also be represented in the next stages by Erika Janka, Sonja Leinamo and Suvi Minkkinen, while the men’s team includes Olli Hidensalo, Otto Invenius, Jonni Mukkala, Joni Mustonen and Jakko Ranta.

In November, Virolainen took 26th place in the individual race at the first stage of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Cup in Kontiolahti, and also became 29th in the sprint.

The IBU has cleared Virolainen, 34, to represent Finland in international competitions during the 2023/24 season. The athlete has lived with her family in Finland since 2016, but at that time she played for the Russian national team and, as a member of the team, won gold at the 2017 European Championship in singles doubles mixed.

The World Cup stage will take place in Hochfilzen, Austria, from December 8-10, and in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, from December 14-17.
