“The IOC humiliates a great power” – Tikhonov on the admission of Russians to neutral status

The International Olympic Committee (IOC), with its rules for admitting Russian athletes to the Paris Olympic Games, is humiliating a great power, the four-time Olympic biathlon champion told . Alexander Tikhonov .

On Friday, the IOC announced it would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Olympics to have neutral status as individual athletes. At the same time, all athletes must accept the updated charter, which speaks of the peaceful goals of the Olympic movement.

— Athletes in many sports no longer qualified for the Olympics. Even if, as an athlete, I was selected for the Games and my comrades were deprived of such an opportunity, I would say that it is a humiliation for a great power. The IOC is simply humiliating a great power. If someone wants to compete under such conditions, let them change their citizenship and compete for another country, but irrevocably. And in general, we have to raise good funds, we are the richest country and organize our games in the same time frame. Call everyone who didn’t make it to the Olympics. I think there will be a lot of people willing to do it,” Tikhonov told .

Previously, the IOC Executive Committee suspended the membership of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). In Paris, Russian and Belarusian athletes can only compete in neutral individual status (AIN), without flags, anthems and other national symbols.

The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
