Olympic champion Albina Akhatova told that over the summer she contacted the headquarters of the Russian men’s national team, headed by coach Yuri Kaminsky .
Maxim Maximov, Akhatova’s husband, works as a shooting coach in Kaminsky’s coaching team.
— Now I continue to work with athletes making rifle stocks. I didn’t set such a goal, but athletes apply, they have such a need.
—Who contacted you not so long ago?
— We did the last project for Denis Irodov, it was during the Russian Summer Championship in Tyumen, so he was ready to ride. This season he is performing with a new box. I hope his shooting performance improves. I will be very happy if that happens.
— A few years ago you were hired as coach of the Russian national team. Was this close to the truth?
— Yes, it was 2019. I joined the men’s team and worked with them all summer – four training camps. In principle, this is quite an interesting profession, but as a mother, it is difficult for me to fulfill such obligations all year round. It’s simply impossible, I would say. I really like this job, but my children’s school year starts in September, so I can’t be with the athletes in this mode. To be a coach, you have to be constantly present at training camps. Therefore, I can sometimes connect in the summer if there is a need and desire.
— Did you log in during this summer period?
— Last year I was at the training camp in Rybinsk, this year at the summer training camp in Tyumen.
— Are we talking about Yuri Kaminsky’s team, where your husband Maxim Maximov works?
— Yes, I was more present there as a wife, but the coaches actively involved me in the work. I worked with athletes when necessary. If someone wanted it, I wouldn’t refuse.
— Who can be called the best shooter in the team?
— I’m a big fan of Eduard Latypov, so I can name him. In 2019 alone, we made two stock structures for him. Now his shooting speed and quality have increased. It’s great that this is happening in the context of the evolution of skiing. I support all the athletes with whom I worked, and I am especially worried because I put a piece of my soul and heart into it,” Akhatova told .
Akhatova is the 2006 Olympic relay champion and four-time world champion. She ended her sporting career in 2010.
