Double Olympic biathlon champion Dmitry Vasilyev told that during the elections of the president of the International Olympic Committee (CIO ), whoever suits Russia and its friends in the world must win.
Current President of the IOC Thomas Bach has held this position since 2013. The next elections will take place in 2025.
—Who should be nominated in the elections?
— There is the Russian Olympic Committee for that, they know the candidates better. While the SVO is underway, it is difficult to say that we can apply, since the IOC is now captured by the enemies of the international Olympic movement. And you can return to the candidate’s question after completing the SVO.
We must negotiate with all our friends, there are more of them than those who voted for Bach. These are Latin America, Africa, part of Asia and the Middle East. We need to bring them all together and explain that the world needs a person who will sincerely defend the interests of sport. Defeating the scoundrels led by Bach in the elections will not be a big problem. You just need to prepare well, to carry out the electoral program in a way that benefits all sensible sports, those who preach clean and honest sport. And the candidate for the post of IOC president does not need to be a Russian citizen, Vasiliev told .
Previously, the IOC Executive Committee suspended the ROC’s membership. In Paris, Russian and Belarusian athletes can only compete in neutral individual status (AIN), without flags, anthems and other national symbols.
