In the pursuit race, Dmitry took 19th place, starting from 52nd position
Leader Ukrainian men’s biathlon team Dmitry Pidruchny commented on his result in the pursuit race at the second stage of the 2023/24 World Cup in Hochfilzen, Austria.
“I was running great, I realized that I could pull myself up [вверх] specifically. But I was a little surprised that it was already in 33rd position. I thought that if I reached the top 30, it would be good. And 19th place is a pleasant surprise that we managed to win back so many positions. I saw my opponents ahead and tried to fight them – it was a contact race, there was someone to run with. A little different than how you run. And the second race – I got a little runaway.”
“At the finish line we were already dealing with each other – with Kün and Krcmarz. In such a tight fight it was possible to end up either higher or lower. Everyone worked to the maximum. It’s good that it worked out for me in the middle.”
“Shooting is fine. What happened in the sprint happens. In pursuit I shot a little differently, tuned in more to shooting, made some small adjustments to the rifle. Perhaps there weren’t enough of them in the sprint.”
The stage in Hochfilzen was the first for Pidruchny, who recovered from a broken arm. Due to injury, Dmitry missed the 2023 Summer World Cup and was not included in the Ukrainian national team’s squad for the first stage of the World Cup in Östersund.
The start of the season for Pidruchny came in the sprint race, where Dmitry had four penalties took 52nd place. But in the pursuit race, the Ukrainian made two shooting misfires and finished 19th.
Tomorrow, December 10, Pidruchny will take part in the men’s relay. The race starts at 12:30 Kyiv time. The women’s relay will begin at 15:15.
