Russian national team biathlete Evgeny Emerkhonov told that he was glad that the stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup in Tyumen was canceled due to frost, because he perfectly remembers the experience of performing in Uvat last season by cold weather.
Previously, the third stage of the tournament in Tyumen was canceled due to severe frosts. Many teams have changed meeting locations or sent biathletes home. Emerkhonov and several other athletes continued their training camp at the Pearl of Siberia.
– How do you survive here in such frost?
— There are no great difficulties, because we train in the gymnasium. We underwent the necessary training, planned with Yuri Mikhailovich Kaminsky. Why did you stay? There’s nowhere to go, it’s cold everywhere now. Whether at home in Izhevsk or elsewhere, it is cold. We decided that there was no need to go anywhere and on December 12 we would go to Ufa. Ilnaz Mukhamedzyanov and Ivan Kolotov still remain in our team. In Tyumen there is a shooting range where you can shoot and a gym. Outdoor cross training with a mask can also be done, so it’s all good.
— Were you satisfied with the cancellation of the stage?
“Of course, I would like to run if the weather is nice.” But it’s definitely not worth running at -20 and below. On Wednesday, when I woke up and was told about the cancellation, I was happy. We remember the experience of last year’s stage in Uvat very well. What’s the point of running? We took 10th place and ruined our health. There were no serious health problems after Uvate, but there were some unpleasant sensations, Emerkhonov told .
