Pidruchny: Fifth place is a very decent result. Perhaps they even jumped higher than they could

The national team captain is pleased with the result, but admits that the team is not in the best shape

Leader Ukrainian men’s biathlon team Dmitry Pidruchny gave another comment regarding the performance in the men’s relay at the second stage World Cup 2023 in Austrian Hochfilzen.

“Pretty good [Артем Тищенко передал эстафету]. If only it were closer to the Swede [Себастьяна Самуэльссона], it would be great if I could stick with him from the first lap. Then I constantly caught up with him – I saw him in front of me, but it was difficult to catch up. If I had been in contact with the Swede first, it would have been better. But, in principle, there were also good opponents there, with whom it was possible [работать]. Artem ran well, there was no big lag, so it’s great overall.”

“Are you satisfied with the shooting? Almost. Either I was in a hurry with the last shot, or I didn’t finish it a little somewhere.”

“I was very happy, the guys and I congratulated each other. We were happy, given such competition, fifth place is a very good result. Despite the fact that, we can frankly say, the guys are not in the best shape now, judging by their latest starts. And fifth place is a very decent result. Perhaps they even jumped higher than they could. The guys endured, it was obvious that it was hard, but they gave their best. And I’m glad that everyone did a great job during the shooting.”

Let us remind you that Pidruchny performed at the second stage of the men’s relay. Artem Tishchenko was running in front of him. Dmitry used one additional cartridge at two stages. The Ukrainian team eventually took fifth place. The blue-and-yellows completed the course without penalty laps and used only three extra rounds. The Norwegians celebrated the victory.

At the stage in Hochfilzen on Sunday, December 10, the women’s relay also took place. It was also won by the Norwegian team, and Ukraine finished in 10th place.
