Smolsky: “At the Olympics, I signed up for the individual race without thinking about medals at all”

Belarusian biathlete Anton Smolski said he hadn’t thought about medals until the start of the individual race at the Beijing Olympics.

Smolsky won silver in the individual event at the 2022 Games, making no mistakes on four shooting ranges.

— During the control training in the fall, I shot zero, and Andrei Viktorovich [Падин] then he told me: “Try to preserve this feeling, remember it.” Then there were many races where I shot well and I really remember those moments.

At the World Cup in Oberhof, where I made four mistakes in the sprint, in Antholz. There, I just lost that feeling of shooting. The weather at the Olympics was very difficult: frost, wind, altitude and other difficulties. But we trained without paying attention to anything. The most interesting thing is that I went into the individual race without thinking about medals at all. I just wanted to do quality work. Plus, we were lucky with the weather,” Smolsky said according to RT.

The second stage of the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup will begin on Friday in Ufa. Watch the live broadcast of the men’s sprint on the channel from 8:35 (Moscow time), the broadcast of the women’s race is scheduled for 11:40 (Moscow time).
