Russian biathlete Daniel Serokhvostov after winning the pursuit race at the second stage of the Commonwealth Cup in Ufa, he told that he was confident of victory, despite four failures.
The race took place on Saturday. Serokhvostov, starting from second place, made four errors in four stages of shooting and clocked 35 minutes 50.2 seconds. Kirill Bazhin won silver (1 penalty, lag – 13.0 seconds), the leading trio was closed by the winner of Friday’s sprint, Eduard Latypov, who made seven shooting errors and lost more than one minute against Serokhvostov.
— I have pretensions about myself, yes. That’s probably why I’m not particularly happy. But it’s still first place, so there’s joy. As the race progressed, they told me what the gap was to who. So, even after two misses at the last corner, I understood that I was definitely the first to go. Three misses would have already been a big fight.
The reason for the failures? I fired the first shot clearly on target, but it didn’t come any closer. I didn’t even understand where the error was. I started being more careful about targets, but after two failures, I realized I was too obsessed with targets. And I just continued my work like in training.
Going into the last lap I realized I was running too hard. If we had gone together, I would have taken a huge pace from the very beginning to the end of the round and, I think, I would have been able to get away from Kirill (Bazhin).
My uniform? Honestly, today is better. I must have been very deceitful yesterday. Turns out I’m pretty well prepared. Sometimes you feel like shit, but you run well. I had this situation yesterday. Today I already feel better. But still, because of the cold, the muscles stiffen and it is difficult to maintain a high pace throughout the race,” Serokhvostov said on .
Later on Saturday, at the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup stage in Ufa, the women’s pursuit race will take place from 12:00 Moscow time. Watch the live broadcast on the channel, as well as on the websites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
