Victory was won by Frenchwoman Justine Brezaz-Boucher, who clocked 27 minutes 31.0 seconds with three penalties. Virolainen (5 penalties) lost more than five minutes against her and finished 48th. Second place went to Frenchwoman Julia Simon (2; +25.2 seconds), the leading trio was completed by Norwegian Marit Skogan (2; +1.13.6).
The 49th place was taken by the representative of South Korea, Ekaterina Avvakumova, who previously represented Russia.
Previously, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) had allowed Virolainen, 34, to compete for Finland in international competitions. Since 2016, she has lived in this republic permanently, and as part of the Russian national team she won gold at the 2017 European Championship in mixed singles doubles.
