The Ukrainian took 20th place in the pursuit race and will take part in the mass start
Leader of the Ukrainian biathlon team Dmitry Pidruchny commented on his performance in the pursuit race at the third stage of the 2023/24 Biathlon World Cup, which takes place in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
“The race was quite dynamic, but maybe the altitude had an effect. The sun was very bright today and towards the end of the race it started to set, so I think that was why there were some misses.”
“It often happens that on every lap we change positions with our rivals. There is a constant struggle for the best positions. There was also a struggle on the last lap – a difficult lap, I understood that I had to fight for every point in order to get into the mass start. So it was a fight until the final meters.”
“There are a lot of fans here along the track; I didn’t even expect this to happen. In general, I like to perform in front of full stands and when there are a lot of fans along the track. Among them were our fans with flags. It’s very nice that they are here and support us. This makes me happy and gives me motivation to fight better on the track. I like Lenzerheide, it’s a very beautiful place. And as long as the stage here is held at a fairly high level, I wouldn’t mind coming back here again.”
Pidruchny finished in the top 20 in the pursuit with three penalties. Norwegian Johannes Boe took first place.
20th place guaranteed Dmitry a start in tomorrow’s men’s mass start. The race starts at 15:45 Kyiv time.
